GEO & AEO

GEO (Generative Engine Optimization) and AEO (Answer Engine Optimization) describe optimizing content so that AI systems like ChatGPT, Perplexity, or Google AI Overviews cite it as a source. The goal is citability rather than rankings: precise, self-contained answers, structured data, verifiable claims. If you don't appear there, you lose visibility — without seeing it in classic SEO metrics.

Classic SEO optimizes for a list of ten blue links. AEO and GEO optimize for systems that formulate exactly one answer — and select sources for it. These systems prefer content that answers a question in a self-contained paragraph, is machine-readable through schema markup (such as FAQPage or DefinedTerm), and proves claims instead of asserting them.

This changes the measurement logic for you: the relevant success is no longer the click from a search results page, but the mention inside the AI answer. That is harder to measure — and precisely why it is often ignored, while competitors collect the citations.

This glossary page is itself built on AEO principles: one citable answer capsule per term, DefinedTerm schema, internal references. decivo optimizes its own website along these principles — we don't recommend anything we don't run ourselves.
